 What is semi permanent make-up?

When using a single needle tattoo gun its a process of implanting pigment into the dermis layer of the skin. When microblading, we use a blade on the epidermis layer of the skin to implant pigment.

Does it hurt?

95% of my clients say, No! I use top-of-the-line topical anesthetics that work great! I use a 4-step numbing process that keeps even the most sensitive clients comfortable right from the start.

How long does the procedure take?

Procedure times vary depending on the service. Eyebrows, typically take up to 1-2 hours. For first-time procedures, a follow-up appointment is recommended and should be scheduled by you as soon as you leave your first initial appointment. It's very important for you to book this as soon as you leave to insure a day and time that works best for you.  Please keep in mind that a reminder will not be sent, this is fully your responsibility to book your follow up appointment.

How long does the healing process take?

It is completely normal to experience some tenderness and swelling immediately following the procedure and for a few days after. The pigment will appear darker and more vibrant than how it will actually look when it is healed. Healing durations vary with each person but generally take between 7 to 14 days. Other than the slight sensitivity to the treated area, healing is normally painless.

How long does it last?

Semi permanent makeup can last 12-18 months (for those that do their 6-8 week touch up) saving you money and time! The exact length of time varies depending on skin type, lifestyle and exposure to the sun. To maximize the duration, please follow the after care instructions provided. Remember to always cover treated area when in the sun. A yearly color maintencae boost is highly recommended to keep your brows looking fresh.

 What color should I choose?

We will choose a color together taking into consideration skin color, hair color and eye color. A soft natural shade is always preferred.

Will I have to take time off of work?

No! After the procedure, you will have minimal-to-moderate swelling and redness that in most cases dissipates quickly. Freshly done procedures are darker initially and then fade within the first week. There is really no downtime. Most clients are happy from the time they first look into the mirror.

What about sterilization?

We are a 100% Disposable studio, all of the blades and tools used are single-use, and disposed of immediately. Sterile needles/blades will be opened in front of you right before your procedure. The facility and artist are registered and in compliance with Orange County Health Care Agency.

Can I have permanent make-up done if I'm on medication?

Depending on the type of medication you may or may not be a good candidate for the procedure. Please message artist with a list of medications you are currently prescribed.

How old do I have to be to get tattooed?

You must be 18 years or older to receive a tattoo service at MAY-RAH-KEE Studio.

Can I get tattooed if I am pregnant or nursing?

As a precaution, we do not perform cosmetic tattooing on pregnant or nursing women.

How will I look immediately after?

Your semi-permanent makeup will appear darker and more intense than expected for the first week, this will gradually lighten during the complete healing process. Redness and swelling is most often minimal.

I have previous eyebrows tattooed by someone else, can I still get them done?

If you have had your eyebrows previously tattooed,  We cannot guarantee results for cases such as these. In some instances where the previous work is too dark, dense or discolored. We can refer you to a removal specialist, this will be highly recommended before our services will be considered. Previously tattooed areas will almost always require additional sessions and will be charged accordingly. Some special cases may be considered. Please contact us with any further questions.

Will cosmetic Tattooing/ Microblading work well for me?

If you have extremely oily skin, the hair stroke eyebrow technique will in some extreme cases not work well for you. The constant production of oil will cause the hair strokes to heal with a diffused, softer look. Your end result will look more powdered than you would expect.

If you have little to no existing hair, your tattoo will appear more 2-dimensional than those clients who have more hair naturally.

If you are a frequent smoker or alcohol drinker, your pigment may fade sooner.

If you are iron deficient or anemic, your pigment may fade sooner and bleeding/bruising may occur during and after the procedure.

What should I know about long term care?

A good sunscreen should be applied daily AFTER healing and is required to help keep color true. As with any tattoo, sun exposure will make the color soften faster.

Fading speed depends on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment color used, broken capillaries, and if any chemical peels were done after your procedure.

If you are planning a chemical peel, laser treatment or other medical procedure, please inform the artist.

Retention of the pigment is out of our control, as it is determined by the patient’s skin type, how well they follow after-care procedures, as well as their immune system, therefore no specific result can be 100% guaranteed.
